ZEISS lifelong eye health at COOC 2021 — China reaches 2.8 million SMILE procedures
COOC 2021 featured a celebration of 2.8 million SMILE procedures in China, the ZEISS Lifelong Eye Health Forum and refractive wet-lab instruction.
Celebrating 2.8 million SMILE procedures in China
On June 18, 2021, the first day of the conference, a ceremony celebrated more than 2.8 million SMILE procedures in China. COOC co-chairs Sun Xinghuai and Qu Jia, SMILE expert representative Zhou Xingtao and Huang Yibin of the Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology delivered remarks, recognizing the technology and its achievements over the previous decade.
ZEISS China representative Liu Yonghua reviewed ten years of SMILE development and achievements in China, thanked Chinese refractive surgeons and said ZEISS would continue providing advanced technology, equipment and high-quality service.
Professor Shi Weiyun, Zhong Kai, Professor Bai Ji, Professor Gao Hua, representatives Zhang Zhiyong and Lin Qinghong, and many ophthalmic colleagues witnessed and celebrated the milestone.
ZEISS Lifelong Eye Health Forum: refractive surgery
On June 19, refractive specialists delivered academic presentations at the ZEISS Lifelong Eye Health Forum.
Professor Wang Hua presented “Standards and Quality Control in SMILE Surgery,” discussing patient selection, communication, standardized surgical technique and continuous visual care.
Professor Wang Mengmeng discussed key preoperative and intraoperative considerations for SMILE as prerequisites for safety and high-quality outcomes.
Professor Wang Xiaoying shared SMILE surgical techniques. Drawing on extensive early experience, clinical cases and long-term observation, she discussed the procedure’s technical advantages and long-term safety, stability and effectiveness.
Full-platform refractive wet-lab and live instruction
ZEISS refractive wet-lab education continued throughout the conference. Experienced surgeons provided practical demonstrations and live instruction for more than one hundred refractive physicians.
Professor Ke Bilian provided SMILE instruction.
Professor Li Xiaoxia provided live instruction in PRESBYOND LBV for presbyopia.
Professor Ye Yufeng provided live instruction in SMILE lenticule dissection.
Professor Xiao Qirui provided surgical instruction.
Professor Shen Zhengwei provided live instruction in individualized excimer-laser surgery.
Professor Li Yong provided surgical instruction.
Professor Liu Guohua provided surgical instruction.
The wet-lab and live teaching continued until the close of the conference and received positive feedback from participating physicians.
Conference conclusion
COOC brought together leading refractive specialists from across China to discuss new developments, technologies and research results.
After the conference, ZEISS stated that it would continue innovating and applying its technical strengths to lifelong eye-health management.
